Tired of using a temporary "Blue roof" while you wait for roofing repairs? What if you could install a stronger roof that would withstand higher winds? Leave it to the experts at New Orleans Roofing & Siding to provide you with an ideal solution.

Let's face it. With hurricane season just around the corner, now is the perfect time for New Orleans residents to consider replacing their old asphalt shingle roof. With a variety of colors available and a lifetime manufacturer's warranty, steel roofing systems are sure to outlast any ordinary roof - on average three times longer.

Understanding Wind Rating Zones and Your Roof's Capabilities

louisiana wind zones

While most asphalt roofs installed in the United States only provide a wind rating up to 90mph1, metal roofing has a 140-mph wind rating, meaning it can withstand wind gusts up to 140 miles per hour.2 When choosing your roofing materials, it is important that your contractor follow the Basic Wind Speeds implemented by IRC and adopted by the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code Council(LSUCCC)3 to ensure your roof can withstand the elements. In southern Louisiana the wind rating zones range from 100mph and upward, with the metro New Orleans region falling in the 110-120mph zone. Any asphalt roof with a 90mph rating will simply not hold up in these potential wind conditions.

If you're ready to make the transition to a steel roof that will last a lifetime and would like more information, simply fill out the form on this page entitled "Get Your Price Now," and a representative will be glad to assist you.

Here in Louisiana we are accustomed to vast temperature fluctuations, but not consistent hard freezes. Winter 2013-14 has given us record low temperatures throughout the country, and a string of consistent hard freezes here in southern Louisiana. Luckily enough, we haven’t had any freezing rain, sleet, or hail during this time! Due to vinyl siding contracting in the cold and becoming vulnerable to breakage and chipping, if hail or even lawn or yard debris were to impact the vinyl siding the chances of it being broken or penetrated during these colder temperatures would be much higher.

With these once uncommon colder temperatures now becoming more common as years go on homeowners must prepare their homes with a siding product that will stand the test of the cold. Steel Siding from Home Creations Inc. can withstand brutally cold temperatures all while being hail resistant. So far it has not shown substantial vulnerability to any such low temperatures felt in the United States. Also, Steel Siding systems coupled with Radiant Barrier insulation will actually save energy during the winter time by repelling heat energy back into the home and keeping the heating system from having to work harder. Also, when summer time comes back around the UVX 4000 Energy saving coating on the steel siding systems reflect 77% of the sun’s harmful UV rays to keep heat out and the home cool. Energy savings occur year round, and the Steel Siding remains strong while the vinyl siding remains vulnerable year after year!

Happy Holidays to all from us here at Home Creations Inc. We hope your holidays were great just like ours were! I’m here today to give you a last minute update about the 2013 Federal Tax Credit that is worth $500 when you choose to have an energy saving and energy efficient home improvement done to your home! This credit is applicable to exterior energy saving product applications, and the project must be put into service and the agreement entered on or before December 31st 2013. Alas, not only do you save your hard earned dollar year in and out via the nature of our Steel Siding Systems, but the Federal Government is allotting you a chance to gain another $500 on your return by making the most sensible choice for your home!

Also, please note that new vinyl siding applications are not included on this tax credit. Only approved “Green Building Materials” are, and Steel Siding Solutions by Home Creations Inc. are one of the best and most affordable energy saving exterior home improvements available. Actually, by making the initial investment to acquire a Lifetime Steel Siding System by Home Creations Inc. on can actually look forward to the initial $500 credit on their upcoming return and a lifetime of savings that will actually pay for the siding over time and making it virtually free! One may never see any such benefits from a non-energy efficient siding application such as vinyl, wood, or fiber cement among others. This is due to them being “finite materials” that all have lifespans that eventually run out.

So call today to acquire your $500 tax credit and the siding solution that will last your home and save you money for a lifetime!

Clayton Grant from Home Creations Inc. here to expose another harsh truth and fact of life in regard to asphalt roofing. Asphalt roofing is vulnerable to Thermal Shock even during the consistent heat of our hot and humid Louisiana Summers. Thermal shock occurs to an Asphalt Roofing when the roof is heated then cooled very quickly. This happen often during the winter and spring time in Louisiana, but even more often during the rainy summer season!

Homeowners have asked in past, “If it stays hot all summer, then how can thermal shock happen?” The answer is in the rain that occurs almost daily in the latter part of our long summers. While the sun is out Asphalt Roofing absorbs and retains heat from the sun. The Asphalt’s temperature can rise upwards of 140 degrees Fahrenheit! The roof will stay at this extreme temperature even after the sun sets for a surmountable amount of time. This gradual cooling normally occurs in asphalt roofing and architectural shingles, but Mother Nature has other plans to interrupt that gradual cooling process, and that interruption comes in the form of daily spot rain. These quick showers lower the roof’s temperature very quickly thus creating a thermal shock every time it rains in the summer. Consistent thermal shocks can cause a bevy of rooming issues much faster than natural degradation.  Thus is the reason as to why asphalt shingles and architectural shingles do not hold up to their promised limited lifespan. The limited lifespan is lived out the longest in very consistent climates that do not experience hard freeze/thaw cycles nor surmountable temperature variations throughout the year, but however we have not come into any such place that does not experience any sort of temperature fluctuation even on a daily basis.

In order to stop this cycle of year in and out thermal shock one may acquire and replace their asphalt roofing with a material that is not vulnerable to Thermal shock. Steel Roofing Systems by Home Creations Inc. do not fall victim to overheating and rapid cooling by having an energy saving kynar reflective coating that actually repels 77% of the sun’s harmful UV rays. When rains hit a Steel Roofing System they are already much cooler surfaces as compared to asphalt shingles, and the temperature fluctuation is much smaller thus Thermal Shock is greatly decreased!

Clayton Grant here at Home Creations Inc. Today we will be discussing maintenance of Vinyl Siding. Maintaining vinyl siding is actually quite the chore. Also, Vinyl Siding lasts about half of its promised lifespan, and will begin to degrade after about 10-15 years and will really be noticeable at 15 years of use.

Once it has reached this period of degradation fading and mold grown may occur. Many homeowners have conveyed to us that they have attempted to pressure wash their homes to revitalize their vinyl siding, but the results were somewhat disastrous. The Vinyl Siding panels were not strong enough to withstand a small pressure washer’s force. Piece of the panels were broken off or had chipped away, and this allowed water to reach the framework of the home, and it was fully exposed to the elements. Some of the mold and mildew was removed on the vinyl as well.

The only way we have found to clean vinyl successfully is to hand scrub with water and a very calm, low grade soap that will not cause harm to the vinyl siding. Homeowners have had to climb ladders to clear their Vinyl siding, and it returned a few years later anyway. It was not a “maintenance free product” as promised. Stains, cracks, and discoloring have become rampant since the vinyl craze.

On the other hand, steel siding by Home Creations Inc. comes with a lifetime warranty will not fade, crack, mildew, rust, buckle, or fail. Also, Steel siding has an energy saving UVX 4000 Coating. This coating coupled with the lifetime guarantee to last the lifetime of your home will end up paying for itself, and saving you thousands of dollars over the lifespan of your home!

Good day! Clayton Grant over here at Home Creations Inc. Today I’ll be exposing the truth behind mold growth, water damage, and breathability of Vinyl Siding. It all begins with the design and application of the siding. Vinyl Siding is usually installed over styrene boards that trap water within the wall cavity. Moisture can get into the wall cavity in between gaps at the edge of the siding panels. The only way to get rid of this problem were to caulk the edges of the siding, but that would actually harm the Vinyl Siding due to it needing to be able to move freely of the wall surface. In attempt to counteract water damage, a water resistant wrap is applied to the home, but through the installation process punctures happen thus attributing to leaks and thus escalating the moisture problem.

With all of the causes of moisture introduction and existence known, let us talk about what this moisture does to our homes! Continuous moisture in the wall cavity will create mold and will rot the wood in the home. Your home can become structurally unsound and even dangerous to any occupant. The mold growth will also occur and be directly related to health issues. All of the vinyl siding you see today is also eating away at the value of the property as it is slowly destroying your home.

You can put a stop to all of this today! By choosing steel siding one has a system that allows the home to properly breathe, and the steel itself will never mildew or mold. Also, with a new installation we shall remove all that old rotten wood from the past, and we shall create the exterior of your dreams that will last a lifetime!

Good day! Clayton Grant over here at Home Creations Inc., and I’m here today to debunk the myth of energy savings with vinyl siding. Again, Vinyl Siding manufacturers and distributors would have us believe that Vinyl Siding is a green product, but it simply is not, and in fact it is actually quite harmful to our environment. It is a cheaply made PVC based product that is initially less expensive, but is a finite material that will not last the 30 years as promised and not to mention a lifetime as Steel Siding promises.

The rationale behind Vinyl Siding inefficiency and not being a green product would be the lack of insulating properties incorporated with Vinyl Siding. There is a gap between where the siding is installed and where the actual panels lay on the home. That leave a gap in which air can escape, and that is the air you, the homeowner have already paid to be heated or cooled. Vinyl siding is allowing your hard earned dollar to just disappear into thin air. It is one of the most inefficient building products on the market today. Traditional wood siding actually has more insulating value than standard vinyl siding.

On the other hand, steel siding comes not only with Steel Siding Panels that reflect 77% of the sun’s ray with the UVX coating, but it also comes with radiant barrier insulation underneath the metal siding panels. So not only are all of the sun’s harmful UV rays and heat kept out during the summer, but the extra insulation keeps the heat in during the winter. 100% protection of your home for the lifetime of your home! With Steel Siding being a lifetime product one will never have to worry with damage from lawn equipment, replacing damaged panels out of pocket, or having to redo the siding ever again!
Check back again for more truths behind vinyl siding, and the end to exterior issues that is Steel Siding.

We have all seen those homes in our neighborhoods in which the homeowner has just given up on the home and it has become the eyesore of the neighborhood. Maybe they’ve just lost some of that homeowner spirit, or maybe they just don’t know where to start? Well, today we’ll discuss a few reasons as to why to keep your home up to date, what can be done, and the benefits of a home with great “Curb Appeal”!

First of all, why even keep the appearance up? If one doesn’t care how it looks, but just that the home basically “works” why should one fix the aesthetics? Well, the benefits of home beautification and maintenance are quite great. With a beautiful home comes a strong home, and the appearance of the home is directly related to efficiency, quality, value, and equity!

When it comes to homeowner’s insurance if the provider has evidence of the home being in fantastic condition and being aesthetically pleasing it would be worth more. If another natural disaster were to occur here in Louisiana and the home were to become a total loss because of it a much larger sum would be paid out on it to keep losses to a minimum.

Next, if one were to want to sell the home it would need to please the potential buyer, one may try to purchase their home for under market value. One would be subject to being severely undersold and underpaid due to a lack of curb appeal alone. Also, many potential buyers do a walk around of the neighborhood before making a purchase decision. If the home in question has the reputation for being neglected or ignored then it could be passed up! One’s neighbors could talk a potential buyer right out of that sale! One bit of advice we have offered clients looking to sell their homes in a few years, or in the very near future was to have one of our energy star certified products installed, and they used it as a selling point. They were able to recoup the cost of their home improvement project, and even came out ahead on the equity that the new Steel Roofing System, or Steel Siding System had provided them! They increased their home’s curb appeal by leaps and bounds!

Even if the home is in working order and nothing “seems” to be wrong with it the property value can still decrease by not being as aesthetically pleasing as the rest of the homes in the neighborhood. For any additional questions or to see how we may help you bring your home to its peak please call today! Thank you for reading and stay tuned!

Good Day! Clayton Grant over here at Home Creations Inc. today we’ll be discussing The Rhino Shield Coating/Painting System and Home Creation’s Steel Siding System. In this we shall compare the two factors of breathability of the home once the product is installed, and the lasting value once installation is complete.

When we think of breathability the first thing that usually comes to mind would be the clothing you’re wearing, and especially during our humid summers. Well, not only do we need to breathe, but in a sense our homes need to breathe as well. We live in the gulf south, and it is a fact of life that our homeland is a very humid and wet one. With that being understood, we know that moisture causes damage to our homes. Moisture causes warping, buckling, and worst of all, rotting. With the Rhino Shield Coating System the breathability is diminished thus not allowing naturally occurring moisture to escape your home like it should. Steel siding, on the other hand, is made with “weep holes” just like in vinyl siding, but with much more strength, durability, and energy saving insulation. These “weep holes” allow moisture to escape after a rain thus giving the framework of your home the ability to dry out. If any moisture were to reach behind the “Rhino Shield” Coating it would bubble and lift up. This occurs through the moisture already existing naturally in your home (via cooking, washing, cleaning, showering, etc.), and this bubbling occurs through moisture transmitting through the framework (studs) of your home to the siding that already existed before the coating process ever begins. This transmittance of moisture is especially disruptive to a home that had wood siding that is now coated. The moisture simply cannot escape like it should.

On the other hand, with steel siding one would acquire a whole new Steel Siding System that included an energy saving reflective Radiant Barrier Insulation that would allow the home to breathe naturally!  With a new Steel Siding System the old wooden siding would remain, and the new Steel Siding System would be installed over it with enough room to allow the home to properly breathe. The homeowners would now have Steel panels that would mimic the random beauty of the previous wooden siding instead of just masking it. With Steel a thermal wall is now created, and will be discussed in a future blog post, or you may call today, and all of your questions can be answered by one of our representatives!

In conclusion, steel siding provides the homeowner with a brand new breathable product that is warranted to last a lifetime as compared to a coating that acts as a paint that lasts 25 years and makes the home more restrictive. Also, not to mention this coating’s average price alone is comparable to a whole Steel Siding replacement. One may cover what they already have, or UPGRADE for a comparable price! The choice is yours!

We’ve come across some bad news here at Home Creations Inc. Many of our fellow Americans have fallen to the hollow promises of Fiber Cement Siding. One such company promised their customers 50 years of Limited Warranty and a 2 year replacement warranty on their fiber cement siding products from 2002 all the way up to 2011(which is the last reported case we could find). The majority of the customer base found that their siding had been penetrated by outside moisture thus causing it to crack, warp, rot, buckle, discolor, and overall deteriorate. This is due to the product being constructed with “fly ash” instead of sand to be eligible for large Federal Tax Breaks.

Due to cutting corners, a very large class action lawsuit has been filed against them in order to rectify the situation. Homeowners must now wait a surmountable amount of time before any of their hard earned money may be returned. Homeowners dealing with millions in siding that simply does not hold up to the promises given. Our hearts go out to those victimized by such faulty materials. Here at Home Creations Inc. we stand firmly behind our promises to provide lifetime Metal Siding System, and Composite Cladding Insulated Siding Systems. All of our products are warranted for life, and they have stood the test of time for over 27 years now. Call today to never have to deal with such pain and remorse!

Mother nature has a whole bevy of creatures at her disposal, and it is understood that not every one is the best to e associated with. Algae and mold would be two of those creatures that would be quite detrimental, and this is especially true when it comes to asphalt roofing. Water has the ability to seep into asphalt shingles and the wooden decking beneath the shingles. This would be an issue that would require proper inspection to determine the amount of damage incurred. The mold and mildew are directly associated with many homes with rotten decking.

Since mold and mildew are living organisims they have the ability to spread. The spreading occurs just like a cirus in your body, and will continue until it has run its course or destroyed your home. The major difference between your home and your body is that your body has the ability to repair itself, but your home does not. One must make the decision whether to let nature win or take control. Also, mold can quickly get into your ventilation system and start to cause health problems for you and your family. One should take a step outside and see if your shingles have dark streaks on them. That is a sign of water damage. Many homeowners currently have water damaged homes and dont even realize it. Protect your home and your family before it's too late!

Hello there! Clayton Grant here from Home Creations Inc, and I'm going to go into some more elements that you, the homeowner should be on the lookout for when it comes to you investing in your new metal roof.

One should only purchase metal roofing systems from a contractor that offers a warranty either through the contractor or even better through the manufacturer. Many metal shingles systems have lifetime limited warranties. Call us today to discuss the warranty that we offer with our Steel roofing systems that we install!

Another and quire arguably the most important part of the metal roofing would be the flashings that need to occur. This is especially true when it comes to a home that has skylights, chimneys, flared gables, etc. One may not use sealants alone on any type of metal roofing application. Special flashings must be fabricated to the exact dimensions of your home and roof decking. We can happily explain how our roofing technicians can make the flashings that will last a lifetime! If one were to not include flashings, then the elements would have quick and easy access to your walls and the interior of your home. Rain, sleet, snow, etc would have quick access to your home, and this goes to show the importance of flashings.

If any of the terms used today feel unfamiliar, or any questions arise please give us a call!

Good Work is not cheap, and cheap work is not good. It's a common thread throughout any industry. Not only would it be a mistake to allow subpar work to occur to your home, but on top of that a much larger mistake would be to use an inferior product on your home to begin with! Let's go through some advantages and disadvantages of both Asphalt Roofs and Metal Shingles.

Asphalt Roofing Advantages:

  • Good looking at first.

  • Less initial cost

Asphalt Roofing Disadvantages:

  • Visible wear within a year I.E. curling, molding, splitting, etc.

  • Can be damaged and even destroyed by the elements I.E. Hail and Wind.

  • Usually requires replacement every 10-15 years.

  • Is the most expensive roof to own over the life of your home.

Metal Shingle Advantages:

  • Little to no cost in maintenance, and is warranted for life

  • Saves money on roofing replacements by never needing to be replaced.

  • Also saves on monthly heating and cooling costs.

  • Metal Shingles are resistant to all elements in any climate from Hail to Wildfire.

  • Resale value of home is increased with the application of metal shingles.

  • Green Product that is 100% recyclable.

  • Insurance discounts and Tax benefits are available on our metal shingles.

Metal Shingle Disadvantages:

  • Initial cost of the roof is more than a premium asphalt roof.

As stated earlier, good work is not cheap, and cheap work is not good. If one were to spend less on an asphalt roof now then he or she would end up spending that money plus more in the very first time a re-roofing would need to happen. Pay for what you deserve and do what is needed to be done, and your worries will be gone for good! Also, with Metal Shingles one would save on those monthly energy bills and Homeowner's Insurance! Buy the roof that actually gives back to you! Call us today to acquire the metal roofing solution that you deserve!

Let's be honest, there is not a single person that looks forward to having their roof redone; well at least not in my findings. Once the contractor is found, time is set aside, and the product chosen then the homeowner must now worry with the installation itself. The homeowner must either trust the contractor to protect their home, or choose a product that does not leave the home vulnerable to the elements. Let's talk about how your home can be vulnerable, what can be done to prevent it, and a product that can prevent this altogether and only add strength to the home.

When it comes to an asphalt re-roofing procedure, the old asphalt shingles must first be removed thus leaving the decking of the roof fully exposed. If the crew were to not finish the home in one day, and it were to rain, or a freak windstorm were to appear there would be no roofing material there to protect the inhabitants. The homeowner must ensure that measure are taken to cover those exposed ares while the application is taking place. One may leave it up to chance, but we know that nature can be very unforgiving. Then again, there is another choice!

What if I told you that there was a way to re-roof without having to take all of those shingles off, and having your home stay protected the entire time! With a metal shingles application, the original asphalt shingles would remain attached to the home. The entire metal roofing system is applied directly over the pre-existing roof. If leaks were to previously exist, then the decking would be replaced instantly, thus leaving no chance of reoccurring damage. The metal shingles process is faster than asphalt, and clearly much safer for the homeowner. So please keep this in mind when it comes time to re-roof your home, and please get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.

Many a time through my travels and consultations with homeowners I have noticed a common thread. This would be that many homeowners didn't fully understand the importance of their soffit and fascia, what the warning signs of bad soffit and fascia were, or how to inspect it. Today I'll discuss why it is important, and how it can affect the whole home. Soffit is the part of the home that extends from the wall to the roof. They are usually made from wood and vinyl. Both materials degrade over time, and if not maintained will be very detrimental to the home itself.

Moisture from outside may get into the attic. This is especially relevant due to being located in the very humid southern portion of Louisiana. This ignored moisture that enters the attic can be severely detrimental to anything located within the attic space. Imagine family heirlooms, attic insulation, and roof decking slowly rotting away, and to make things worse if the damage is severe enough outside animals such as insects can easily intrude into your home without you being aware of it whatsoever! Your prized possessions may be currently getting destroyed by the elements this very moment. The insulation in the attic may be getting damp with each rain thus slowly becoming a breeding ground for mold and bacteria!

In my next post I will share a few simple steps on how to inspect your attic and outside for evidence of damage and exposure. Thanks for reading, and we look forward to helping you one day soon!

Good Day! Clayton Grant over here at Home Creations Inc. Today we'll be discussing repairing portions of an asphalt shingle roof and a full replacement of that roof. The usual reservation or deciding factor would be the initial investment. When it comes to a patch, the monetary requirement is much lower, but the lasting quality of the repair will be much lower than that of a roof replacement. Also, if one portion of the roof is damaged and leaking, and shingles were not missing, then the odds of another fix being needed on a different part of the roof within a short amount of time is likely.

Also, while making your decision, please ask yourself, “How did I get into this position anyway?”. I will tell you how! You fell into the trap that is the common asphalt roof. One that is destined to fail from its very inception and creation. With that being known, what is one to do to stop the continuous cycle of repairs, re-roofing, and empty pockets?

The answer is steel roofing from Home Creations Inc. With the strength of steel, and the durability of Kynar coating up the shingles themselves that repel 77% of the sun's rays, and a lifetime warranty that assures that our metal roofing will end this vicious cycle that you've had to suffer with for years now. Alas, if one were to want to reroof with asphalt your initial cost would be less, but with the lack of energy savings(with steel is an average of 40% per month) and the need to reroof again after some time. The cost of needing to re-roof the asphalt multiple times in the same time that a metal roof would continuously last and never degrade would outweigh the cost of the metal roofing greatly.

Out of all these options discussed, re-roofing in general is the most cost effective in the long run. Now is the time to decide what material is best for your home. Will you choose the asphalt or the Lifetime energy saving steel shingle that needs one application, and is set for life! The choice is yours, and I trust that you will make the wise choice!

Temperature fluctuation is a way of life in southern Louisiana. This is especially true in the wintertime, and before the brutal summer heat comes in full force. The temperature will become almost unpredictable with variations up to 40 degrees a day! This vast temperature change can do great damage over a short period of time to an asphalt shingle roof. With this happening at least one season out of every year the chance for early degradation is quite high, thus turning a roof rated for 30 years into one that may not live anywhere near that long. It is a commonplace happening in today's climate.

We should actually consider ourselves lucky due to living in sch a temperate climate. We do not have to worry with the weight of excessive snow from blizzards nor dangerous ice dams forming from snow melting and refreezing. On the other hand, our brutal summers along with heavy rains and threat of tropical storms and hurricanes sure do contribute to cutting an Asphalt roof's life expectancy. No matter where you are an asphalt roof just will not be able to hold up as well as it is promised to do so, nor will it give you the return that you deserve.

Good Day, Clayton Grant from Home Creations Inc, and today we will be talking about a few difference between metal shingles and the standing seam metal roofing applications. Let's get right to it, and assume that you currently have an asphalt shingle roof on your home, and you are trying to decide which would be the best route to take keep that roof up!

When it comes to a Standing Seam roof all of the old asphalt shingles on the home must be removed before the new standing seam panels may be installed. This would cause excess waste and removal in which the homeowner would be held responsible. Some companies offer free asphalt shingle removal within their services, but the truth is that the removal is really just built into the contract price from the start. It is very costly, and even more wasteful. With a metal shingle application, the whole roofing system is installed over the preexisting asphalt shingles. No mess and costly tear off would occur, and the old roof would be re-purposed as a thermal barrier to your home.

Also, with a tear off scenario there is a chance for direct contact with the element while installation is occurring. During the application process of the standing seam, if the installer were to over tighten the screws that fasten the panels to the home the washers would become brittle and break over time causing a massive amount of leaks throughout the home some time later on down the road. Such pitfalls do not exist with a metal shingle application. When it comes to shingles the weather during installation is not an issue, and it is common to have a rainstorm happen. The synthetic underlayment will keep the home water tight during the whole process. As well, clips and screws are used to fasten down the shingles, this no washers are needed, and the risk of water damage is not an issue whatsoever.

These are just a few differences and pitfalls that do exist during the installation, and should be taken into consideration when making the decision in which style of metal roofing is to be chosen. Please take this into consideration before making any purchases. Thank you for reading!
